Club Rides During the Coronavirus Pandemic

UPDATE, July 7: On July 6 the Rock Hill City Council passed an emergency ordinance mandating wearing masks in all public places.  This mandate excludes exercising or being outdoors.  For now, club rides will continue, and we encourage you to wear masks and practice social distancing while gathering before or after a ride.  Please note, the TT series is suspended for the remainder of the year. You can read the city's statement at: Rock Hill Mask Mandate

UPDATE, June 5: Starting Monday, June 8, Club sponsored rides are back on.  For Monday nights, we'll start back releasing in groups, A, B and C, to keep the groups small going through town.  As before, if you feel sick, have been around someone that has been sick, or are uncomfortable in groups, please stay home.  This is our attempt to get things back to normal, or somewhat normal, and we don't want anyone to take unnecessary risks.  Be safe and have fun.

UPDATE, May 12: The Governor of SC lifted restrictions on recreational activities, among many other things.  As a result, the RHBC Board has decided to recognize some of our rides as Show-and-Go rides starting next Monday, May 18.  The Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday rides will all resume, same places and times, though some have already been taking place.  The Time Trial and Wednesday night Handicapped races at the Crit course are still on hold.  Keep checking the website and Facebook for updates.  A few things to note:

1. The rides will all be show-and-go for the time being, and will switch to full club sponsored rides when safe.
2. If you feel sick, at all, please stay home.
3. If you have been around someone that has been sick, please stay at home.
4. If you are at all concerned about being in a group and either getting infected or infecting someone else, please stay at home.
5. Please do not gather in groups larger than 10 in the parking lot.  We will still depart in our regular groups, but let's try to keep groups in the parking lot from getting too large.

UPDATE, May 5: The Governor of SC is starting to ease restrictions in the state.
If things continue to progress, we may start our club rides back up starting May 18.  Please check back here for updates.

UPDATE, April 14: USA Cycling has extended it's suspension of all sanctioned events until May 31, and have asked that all clubs to do the same.  Therefore, all RHBC
activities and events will be suspended through May 31.

UPDATE, March 24: The Governor of SC has mandated that there shall be no gathering of 3 or more people.  Please be careful if riding with others.

UPDATE, March 18:  USA Cycling has decided to suspend all sanctioned events until May 3, and have asked all clubs to do the same.  Therefore, all RHBC activities and events will be suspended through May 3.

March 16
The Rock Hill Bicycle Club has been
closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.  The latest recommendation by the CDC is to cancel events of over 50 people for eight weeks, while USA Cycling recommends canceling all cycling events.  The RHBC recognises that the current risk for our area is low, but we also realize the risk is real.  For the safety and concerns for the well-being of our community, club members, and fellow cyclists, the RHBC has decided to suspend all Club rides and activities for the rest of March.  We will continue to evaluate the situation daily, and will post updates as the situation changes.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
But, if riders decide to show up at a particular parking lot, on a particular day, at a particular time, to ride with friends on a show-and-go ride, that is up to them.  But please be respectful and smart when it comes to riding.  If you have any inkling that you are sick, stay home.  If, while on the ride and you feel the need to sneeze or cough, please pull out from the group to do so.  Be mindful of where you are and who is around you.

Let's all be smart, and be safe.
