During the Spring, Summer and Fall months the RHBC hosts a weekly Monday night “Hospitality” ride which draws riders for all levels of social riding. Highlighted in nationally distributed Bicycling Magazine, the ride gives the club an opportunity to share the beauty of our area with new members and to teach riding safety and promote healthy living. After the ride, dozens of cyclists remain in the area to dine, shop and socialize. This ride is around 20 miles, and starts with the A group going out for a fast-paced ride, followed by the B and C groups. This is a no-drop ride, with a ride sweep to assist with new or slower riders.
NOTE: In case of inclement weather, this is a show-and-go with no ride leaders. The ride is not canceled, and riders participate at their risk.
We are always looking for Group Ride Leaders for this ride. It's an easy job, the main goal is to keep the group pace and ensure a the group stays together at the beginning going through town. Ride Group Volunteer Notes:
- A Group Leader: Ensure A Group riders follow neutral start at the beginning. Once the group makes a left on Neely Rd, they are free to cut loose. Pace will be 23+ mph.
- B Group Leader: Maintain a consistent 17-19 mph pace. Keep the group together through town. Know the course, pick up A group stragglers. Allow faster riders to go off the front, DO NOT chase them. No need to wait on B Group stragglers, as the C group will get them.
- C Group Leaders: Maintain a consistent 15-17 mph pace. Pick up any stragglers. No drop, ensure all riders finish with the group. C group has the option of cutting the ride short to make it a 15 mile ride if needed. If no Sweep present, ensure no riders are dropped.
- Sweep: Bring up the rear, ensure no riders dropped. Assist with mechanical if needed and able. Can cut the route short if needed.
